Children's books are teaching aids that build language skills and cultural awareness of a society. Korean children's books are valuable tools that provide children with an innate sense of the rhythm of the language and give them a cultural foundation combining the past with the present.

The Korean language is graceful and is part of the artwork featured in these children's books. Children become familiar with written language as well as the spoken word when their books are read aloud. The rich mythology provides a unique opportunity to bond parents with their children when the stories are shared. The stories parents share with their children are the ones that will be shared with their grandchildren. In this way, historical events, dance, music, art, and mythology is passed from one generation to the next and feeds the rich cultural river Koreans of all ages draw upon.  Special celebrations are often tied to food and stories. For example, children learn the importance of the New Year and the symbolism of the food that is prepared for this celebration.

Korean children's books often provide satisfying answers to the question, "Why do we do things this way?" Children are then able to answer that question when asked by their peers.  Ultimately, Korean children's books build a sense of identity and pride in young readers.
